Tour the Magnificent Cairngorms National Park in Full 360°
What better way to view the wild and rugged beauty of Scotland’s Cairngorms National Park (without actually visiting!) than in jaw-dropping 360° video? Well, the team at Biome Productions have once again made that possible with a two-part production: Wild Tour: The Cairngorms.
Taking you on a journey through the national park, the tour whisks over glistening lochs, through peaceful pine forests, and rocky mountaintops; all the while informing us on the local wildlife that resides within its majestic landscapes.
Biome Productions are a “360° production house” based in thriving Bristol, UK. Wielding the power of VR and 360°, their mission is to “transfer viewers from their living room and into the wild,” – something that they’ve undoubtedly accomplished in this two part tour.
Wild Tour: The Cairngorms Ep. 1
In part one, “wild guide” Sophie Pavelle opens up the series rocking gently in a canoe atop a relaxing loch, before heading off to a lonely crag far off the beaten track.
Surrounded by rustling pines, Pavelle explains Scotland’s forest and wildlife history, where even today “25% of our endangered species” still reside, such as the red squirrel and Scottish wildcat.
The team then nestles in a hide to get a glimpse of one of the UK’s “most elusive predators” – the omnivorous pine marten – but you’ll have to watch the video to see what happens!
Wild Tour: The Cairngorms Ep. 2
For part two, guide Sophie Pavelle returns to take us straight up a rock-strewn mountaintop, where she explains how in Winter the Cairngorms undergo a snowy transformation, draping each stony peak in a blanket of white.
We then sit by a rolling mountain stream, which Pavelle details are “the real arteries of the park”, spreading water through the valleys and “providing loads of habitat along the way.”
Trekking to a grassy mountainside that homes the Cairngorm Reindeer Centre, where 150 reindeer roam freely across 10,000 acres of bountiful wilderness. Here Pavelle stands amidst the herd (occasionally receiving a bump or two!), explaining how they are adapted to the freezing conditions of the Cairngorms.
