Each week we’ll be giving you a theme that you can submit a photo for, and we’ll choose our favourite to be featured on the Nature TTL website. Participating in these assignments will be a great way for you to encourage yourself to push the boundaries of your photography and improve together as a community on the website.

Week 169: Animal Portraits

Our theme this week is Animal Portraits and we’d love to see what creative portraits of wildlife you can create! The days are lengthening as we come into the new season, with plenty of wildlife out and about. Pay attention to how lighting can enhance your portraits, and think about how you might create ‘unique’ images of common species. There will always be a new way to photograph an animal! And whether you capture a squirrel in your back garden, or wildlife in an area far from your home, the options are endless, and we can’t wait to see what inspiring animal portraits you can create.

Last week’s winner

Last week’s theme was Evening Light– and our favourite image this week is:

This week’s winner is this image, captured by Steen Torner: ‘I went to my local lake on Tuesday evening just before sunset and observed a few fieldfares. Lying flat on the ground for almost an hour, I tried to get some pleasing compositions with the golden light in the background and a soft framing of the bird. It all came together just as dinner was ready…’ We love the use of light in this shot, and the way the depth of field draws our eye to the subject of the image. The richness and colour of the light cascading across the background complements the subject very well, and captures a very important evening activity – eating! Well done, and thank you to all who entered!
