Each week we’ll be giving you a theme that you can submit a photo for, and we’ll choose our favourite to be featured on the Nature TTL website. Participating in these assignments will be a great way for you to encourage yourself to push the boundaries of your photography and improve together as a community on the website.

Week 226: Contrast

Our theme this week is Contrast, and we’d love to see what creative images you can take of contrast found in nature. Light and shadow can be seen everywhere in the natural world. This week we encourage you to look for moments where you can highlight the contrast in a nature image. Look for textures, highlights, shadows, textures, colours and clarity. Try high and low key style images, play with negative space, or experiment with a variety of lighting. Go out at different times of day to see how the sun influences the light and shadow in your images. You may choose to use black and white to help accentuate these visuals, or to work with colours. Whether you’re a seasoned nature photographer, or are new to the genre, the options for nature photos with a focus on contrast are endless, and we can’t wait to see what inspiring images you can create.

Last week’s winner

Last week’s theme was The Colour Green – and our favourite image this week is:

This week’s winner is this image, captured by Zoltan Dobany, taken ‘early morning, in a field.’ We love the fact that this entire frame is filled with green; the subject and its surroundings! It’s a beautiful display of camouflage. The soft curve of the leaf draw our eye across the frame, and the descision to keep the main subject off-centre is highly effective, as it highlights further the contrast between the darker shadows and the spot of light. Well done, and thank you to all who entered!
