Week 298: Golden Hour

Our theme this week is Golden Hour, and we’d love to see what fantastic images of nature you can take at golden hour! The light at golden hour is known to transform images from mundane to extraordinary. This week we would like you to explore how the soft light of early morning or late evening can affect your nature photography. Perhaps you will photograph your favourite birds or mammals at first light, or a stunning landscape scene as the sun sets over the horizon. Maybe you will use interesting lighting techniques, such as backlighting, to make the most of these fleeting moments. Whether you’re a seasoned nature photographer, or are new to the genre, the options for awesome golden hour images are endless, and we can’t wait to see what inspiring images you can create.

Last week’s winner

Last week’s theme was Water – and our favourite image this week is:

This week’s winner is this image, captured by Ugoline Godeau: “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head”. Over the weekend, I took my first photography class, which had been scheduled for 6 months. It never rains in my region, but that day, it rained all day. It was disappointing, but also very instructive to experiment with the rain.

This charming portrait is a wonderful capture of character, and takes a creative look at the theme of water by capturing a species interacting with their watery environment. The creative composition gives room for the subject in the frame, and pulls the viewer straight into the scene. Well done, and thank you to all who entered!
