Take a Month-Long Maritime Tour in this 10 Minute Timelapse

There’s no denying – timelapses are currently in trend, appearing all over the web in a multitude of awe-inspiring forms. But this 10 minute timelapse from photographer and sailor Jeffrey Tsang reveals a world of breathtaking visual beauty so far unseen. With his camera firmly placed atop a container ship travelling from the Red Sea and ending in Hong Kong, the viewer is taken on a 30-day tour at lighting speed, giving an insight into a life spent at sea.

As the ship sails through a stretching azure ocean, the natural sights are aplenty – from burning sunsets to star-studded skies, billowing clouds and fierce thunderstorms licked by lightning, Tsang has lovingly captured it all. Alongside that we see the mark of man, including other ships streaking past to the bustle of cargo ports working hard into the night. Leaving his camera out at all times, it was occasionally soaked by rain, and had to be exposed correctly by crew members whilst Tsang was asleep.

Over the entire journey Tsang used about 80,000 images to craft the timelapse, using a Nikon D750 with a Rokinon 12mm f/2.8 attached. Requiring around 1500GB of storage for the project, Tsang’s goal was to show how ‘sailing in the open ocean is a unique feeling and experience’ – and it’s clear from the footage, this was surely achieved.
