Weekly Photography Assignment: Animal Portraits

Each week we’ll be giving you a theme that you can submit a photo for, and we’ll choose our favourite to be featured on the Nature TTL website. Participating in these assignments will be a great way for you to encourage yourself to push the boundaries of your photography and improve together as a community on the website.

Week 208: Animal Portraits

Our theme this week is Animal Portraits, and we’d love to see what creative images of wildlife you can create!  Wildlife makes an excellent subject, big or small, and often there’s no need to venture too far from home to find your next feature! When composing your images this week, pay special attention to how lighting can enhance your portraits, and think about how you might create ‘unique’ images of common species. There will always be a new way to photograph an animal! And whether you capture a squirrel in your back garden, or decide to venture out to find wildlife in an area far from your home, the options are endless. We can’t wait to see what inspiring animal portraits you can create!

Last week’s winner

Last week’s theme was Black and White – and our favourite image this week is:

This week’s winner is this image, captured by Chinmoy Biswas: There’s an immediate atmosphere in this image. It’s composed well, with the gulley acting as a lead-in line through the scene. The silhouette of the watching dog adds balance to the frame as well as interest in its behaviour. The black and white medium is used nicely, with a gradient of tones running through the water and the textures of the cracked earth picked up in the monochrome.
