Weekly Photography Assignment: Backlighting
Each week we’ll be giving you a theme that you can submit a photo for, and we’ll choose our two favourites to be featured on the Nature TTL website. Participating in these assignments will be a great way for you to force yourself to push the boundaries of your photography and improve together as a community on the website.
Week 4: Backlighting
Our theme this week is Backlighting. This is a chance for you to experiment with light and try to achieve this incredibly effective style of lighting.

Last Week’s Favourites
Here are our favourites from last week’s theme — Bokeh! View all the entries on our post.
It’s a simple subject: some grass with a sycamore tree seed amongst the blades. But the use of bokeh in this shot really, really adds to the image. The dew on the grass forms beautiful dappled circles in the background, forming a dreamy bokeh. This is done using a shallow depth of field, and the lighting has helped to highlight the dew drops. Great work.
A beautiful bokeh of all the surrounding snow drops has created another dreamy scene. Without the use of a shallow depth of field to create this bokeh, the shot would be less interesting. The shapes created give depth and interest to the scene.
