Weekly Photography Assignment: Black and White
Each week we’ll be giving you a theme that you can submit a photo for, and we’ll choose our favourite to be featured on the Nature TTL website. Participating in these assignments will be a great way for you to encourage yourself to push the boundaries of your photography and improve together as a community on the website.
Week 207: Black and White
Our theme this week is Black and White, and we’d love to see what images of nature you can create in black and white! This can be done in post production, or you may be able to pre-visualise your images without colour ‘in-camera.’ Look for bold, stand-out patterns and striking compositions that would lend themselves well to being stripped of colour. Perhaps you will look for interesting and striking perspectives and leadings lines in a forest, or capture the details of your favourite wildlife species in silhouette against the sun, or even look for textures and patterns in plants and the smaller aspects of nature. Whether you’re a seasoned nature photographer, or a total newbie, the options for creative black and white nature photos are endless, and we can’t wait to see what inspiring images you can create.

Last week’s winner
Last week’s theme was Colour – and our favourite image this week is:
This week’s winner is this image, captured by Louise: We love the use of the colour yellow in this image. It’s a great exercise to train our eye to look for and focus on a single colour in an image, and it can create a really pleasing result when executed well, as in this photo! The soft tones are warm and inviting, and the crisp focus on the intricate details of the flowers draws our eye into the may layers of the main subject. Well done, and thank you to all who entered!
